In general the face vector of a triangulation of a given convex polytope depends on the choice of the triangulation. This makes it difficult to study the \(h\)-vector of nonsimplicial polytopes and to carry over corresponding results to the nonsimplicial case. In this paper some progress is obtained for special subclasses of equidecomposable polytopes such as weakly neighborly polytopes. For certain subdivisions, called shallow subdivision, it is shown that the \(h\)-vector does not change by the subdivision. See also the author's forthcoming contribution ``Face numbers and subdivisions of convex polytopes'' in Proc. NATO-ASI conf. on polytopes, Toronto 1993, Kluwer Acad. Publ.
