The parabolic nonlinear system of two equations describing the displacement of one compressible fluid by another, completely miscible with the first, in a one-dimensional porous medium has been considered. Under some assumptions the existence of a global weak solution of an appropriate initial boundary value problem has been proved. The basic approach is the semi-Galerkin method. The authors use the technique of renormalized solutions for parabolic equations in the derivation of a priori estimates.
