Following the Cherlin-Zil'ber conjecture, an infinite simple group of finite Morley rank is an algebraic group over an algebraically closed field. The author shows that a minimal counterexample to the Cherlin-Zil'ber conjecture (tame or not) cannot be of mixed type.
