The hydrodynamic equations describing convection in a binary mixture are solved numerically in three dimensions for a positive separation ratio and rigid, thermally conducting and impermeable boundary conditions on the upper and lower plates. The stationary 3D square structure as well as the transition from squares to stable rolls via an oscillation between two perpendicular sets of rolls are obtained. The formation of a large scale structure is found for a small Rayleigh number in the Soret regime.
