An absorbing layer that does not activate any reflection at an interface with first vacuum is described and then applied to build a new technique of free-space simulation for solving an unbounded electromagnetic problem with the finite difference time-domain method. This technique appears to be more attractive than the earlier techniques of free-space simulation.
