The authors investigate the means satisfying either the conditions of \textit{J. Aczél}'s theorem [Bull. Am. Math. Soc. 54, 392-400 (1948; Zbl 0030.02702)] or the conditions of \textit{A. Kolmogoroff}'s and \textit{M. Nagumo}'s theorem [Rendiconti Accad. d. L. Roma (6) 12, 388-391 (1930; JFM 56.0198.02) and Japanese Journ. of Math. 7, 71-79 (1930; JFM 56.0198.03)] except the assumption of strict monotonicity. More precisely, they describe the general form of continuous symmetric, increasing, idempotent solutions of the bisymmetric functional equation and establish the family of sequences of functions which are continuous, symmetric, increasing, idempotent and decomposable.
