The authors present a uniqueness theorem for the solutions to hyperbolic systems of conservation laws which is valid within the same class of functions where global existence theorems are known. The proof is based on the fact (shown in this paper), that any weak entropy admissible solution \(u\) coincides with the corresponding trajectory of the standard Riemann semigroup, provided that mild assumptions on the variation of \(u\) along space-like segments hold.
