The authors consider the Wilson nonconforming finite element method to solve a class of two-dimensional second-order elliptic boundary value problems. In many practical cases, Wilson's method seems better than the bilinear conforming element. Following \textit{Q. D. Zhu} [Superconvergence theory of the finite element methods, Hunan Science Press (in Chinese) (1989)], it can be easily proved (as the authors say) that the bilinear-conforming element possesses the superconvergence property at the centre, as well as at the four vertices and the midpoints of the four edges of the rectangular meshes. Herein, it is proved that besides at the centre of the rectangles as shown by \textit{H. Chen} and \textit{B. Li} [Numer. Math. 69, No. 2, 125-140 (1994; Zbl 0818.65098)], the Wilson element has also the superconvergence property at these eight points like the bilinear element.
