Multiresolution representations of data are a powerful tool in data compression. \textit{A. Harten} [SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 33, No. 3, 1205--1256 (1996; Zbl 0861.65130)] gave one-dimensional modified-encoding algorithms to ensure stability in the nonlinear prediction processes. In this paper, the author discusses a two-dimensional nonseparable approach that ensures the stability for any construction type.
