The author presents elements of the index theory on manifolds with simple singularities. He uses noncommutative \(C^{\ast}\)-algebras in place of the usual algebra of functions on the manifold. As the base of the study serves the concept of a groupoid \(C^{\ast}\)-algebra introduced by \textit{J. Renault} [A groupoid approach to \(C^{\ast}\)-Algebras, Springer (1980; Zbl 0433.46049)]. This approach may lead to possible extension of the results to manifolds with more general singularities.
