This paper gives results in the direction of explicit formulae for the Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials of the symmetric group when the indexing permutations are of particular form. These results imply, in particular, the validity of two conjectures of \textit{F. Brenti} and \textit{R. Simion} [J. Algebr. Comb. 11, 187--196 (2000; Zbl 0958.05138)]. All the proofs are purely combinatorial.
