The authors propose an algorithm for determining the optical diffusion and absorption coefficients of an axialsymmetric biological tissue based on irradiance and temperature measurements. The minimization of the corresponding cost functionals is performed by the conjugate gradient method. The direct and adjoint heat transfer and optical propagation equations are solved using Crank-Nicolson schemes. The authors present some numerical examples for the inverse problem with exact and randomly perturbed data.
