This is an interesting contribution to the series of papers, since 1976, on conditions on groups in which every infinite set of elements contains a pair of elements \(x,y\) with some kind of commutativity condition. In this case the condition is \([x,y,y]=e\), the unit element, and the conclusion is that if the group is finitely generated and soluble, then the above Engel condition is equivalent to the factor group of the second centre being finite.
