The authors open their paper with a discussion of the ideas underlying the process of the mollification, a filtering procedure. They show how this can be applied to the heat equation where some of the boundary data are noisy. A marching scheme is produced with associated error and stability analyses. This is applied to two examples where the process is shown to be satisfactory.
