The paper gives an excellent overview of the state-of-the-art of micromechanical modelling of void coalescence in ductile fracture. One part is devoted to the development of a model for the whole coalescence regime that is suitable for finite element implementation. The second part deals with the prediction of acceleration rate of void-volume fraction after reaching a critical values, i.e., the onset of void coalescence in the phenomenological approach of Gurson model extended by \textit{V. Tvergaard} and \textit{A. Needleman} [Int. J. Solids Struct. 34, 2221-2238 (1997; Zbl 0942.94620)].
