A subset of a locally convex space \(E\) is called limited, if every equicontinuous weakly null sequence converges to zero uniformly on \(A\); a locally convex space \(E\) is a Gelfand-Phillips space, if every limited set in \(E\) isprecompact. The paper is mainly concerned with the characterization of limited sets \(H\) in tensor products of two locally convex spaces \(E\) and \(F\). As for the Schwartz \(\epsilon\)-product \(E\epsilon F\) (which is defined as the space of all \(w^*\)-weakly continuous operators from \(E'\) into \(F\) which transform equicontinuous subsets of \(E'\) into relatively compact subsets of \(F\), endowed with the topology of uniform convergence on the equicontinuous sets in \(E'\)) it is observed that if \(H\) is limited then \(H(U^ 0)\) is limited in \(F\) and \(H'(V^ 0)\) is limited in \(E\) for all absolutely convex neighborhoods \(U\) in \(E\) and \(V\) in \(F\) respectively and it is proven that the converse holds if \(F\) is a Gelfand-Phillips space with the approximation property. It is shown by a (nontrivial) counterexample that the converse is also not true in the completed injective tensor product \(E{\hat \otimes}_{\epsilon}E\) for the Banach space \(E:=\ell_{\infty}.\) The last section is devoted to limited operators between Banach spaces, in particular the ``limited extension property'' of a Banach space is characterized.
