The function \(\zeta_ a(s)=\prod_{p}((1-p^{-s}+(p+a)^{-s})^{-1}\) with \(a>0\) is studied. Since \(\lim_{a\to \infty}\zeta_ a(s)=\zeta (s)\) for \(\sigma >1\), this can be viewed as a generalization of Riemann's zeta-function. Such a function has appeared in a branch of theoretical physics called p-adic string theory. Some basic properties of \(\zeta_ a(s)\) are established, among other things that \(\zeta_ a(s)\) is holomorphic and nonvanishing for \(\sigma >\sigma_ 0>0\) if \(a>2(2^{\sigma_ 0}-1)^{-1/\sigma_ 0}.\)
