The paper under review is concerned with the problem of computing the Schur index \(m_K(\chi)\) of an irreducible character \(\chi\) of a finite group \(G\) over an algebraic number field \(K\). The author uses the theory of central simple \(G\)-algebras as developed by \textit{A.~Turull} [J. Algebra 170, No. 2, 661-677 (1994; Zbl 0813.20010)], who gave conditions for the existence of a Schur index preserving character correspondence between certain sets of irreducible characters of groups \(G\) and \(H\). The author proves that this bijection exists whenever there are characters \(\chi\in\text{Irr}(G)\) and \(\xi\in\text{Irr}(H)\) that have minimal possible degree, are quasiprimitive with respect to \(K\) (i.e. for all normal subgroups \(N\) of \(G\), \(\chi_N\) is an integer multiple of an \(K\)-irreducible character of \(N\)), and generate the same element in the Brauer group of \(K\). Finally, conditions on characters of solvable groups are given, that ensure that the above situation occurs.
