This is a memorial tribute to Professor Árpád Elbert, who died in Budapest on April 25, 2001. After a short biography of Á. Elbert, the authors describe his work and their memories of him. Each author gives his own account of his collaboration with Á. Elbert, on several problems on special functions. In particular, A. Laforgia gives an outline of his joint work with him on several properties of the zeros of Bessel and cylinder functions. The work of M. Muldoon with Á. Elbert, is mainly on Bessel and Hermite functions. P. Siafarikas gives a survey of his main results with him on several properties of the zeros of Bessel functions and ultraspherical polynomials. All three authors remember Á. Elbert, as a kind, valued and generous collaborator.
