The result mentioned in the title is 50 years old and states that every group \(G\) can be represented as the automorphism group of a distributive lattice \(D\). If \(G\) is finite, then \(D\) can be chosen as a finite distributive lattice. The authors give a new construction of such a distributive lattice and discuss the relationships between this construction, Priestley duality and earlier results.
