Enlarging recent results obtained by Panyushev concerning \(\mathbb Z_2\)-graded Lie algebras \(\mathfrak g\) [\textit{D. I. Panyushev}, J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 64, No. 1, 61--80 (2001; Zbl 1012.17005)], the authors analyze maximal abelian subspaces of the odd sector \(\mathfrak g_1\) invariant with respect to a given Borel subalgebra of the reductive sector \(\mathfrak g_0\). It is shown that maximal \(\sigma\)-minuscule elements of the affine Weyl group are in correspondence with these maximal invariant abelian subalgebras of \(\mathfrak g_1\). This enables to determine a natural parametrization of maximal elements.
