Fix an abelian surface \(X\) and \(C\) a holomorphic curve of genus \(g\) in \(X\) representing a primitive homology class. Let \( n=\tfrac 12 C\cdot C-(g-1)\). The authors define a number \(N_{g,n}(X,C)\) which counts the number of curves passing through \(g \) generic points, and a number \( N^{FLS}_{g,n} \) which is the number of curves in the fixed linear system \(|C|\) passing through \(g-2\) generic points. They define (modified) Gromov-Witten invariants which compute these numbers and prove that they do not depend on \(X\) or \(C\). Their main theorem (theorem 1.1) gives two formulas which show these numbers as the Fourier coefficients of quasi-modular forms.
