Given two complex Banach spaces \(X\) and \(Y\) and (continuous linear) operators \(A\in L(X,Y)\) and \(B\in L(Y,X)\), it is well known and easy to show that the spectrum of \(AB\) and the spectrum of \(BA\) differ at most in one point: \(\{0\}\). This result have been extended, showing that many spectral properties of \(AB\) are similar to those of \(BA\). This paper considers three operators \(A\in L(X,Y)\) and \(B,C\in L(Y,X)\) satisfying \(ABA=ACA\), and find that, for several spectral properties \(\mathcal{P}\), the product \(AC\) has \(\mathcal{P}\) if and only if so has \(BA\). This is true for being Drazin invertible, algebraic, polaroid, meromorphic and B-Fredholm. As an application, it is proved that the generalized Weyl's theorem holds for the Aluthge transform of certain operators. Some of the results are also studied for elements of a Banach algebra or a ring with identity.
