A generalized Jacobi matrix is a~three-diagonal block matrix \[ J=\{(B_j)_{j\ge0}, (C_j)_{j\ge0}, (D_j)_{j\ge0}\} \] with the entries being matrices of a special form. The present paper is the first part of an announced series of papers which study factorisations of the form \[ J=VU+\alpha I, \] where \(V\) and \(U\) are lower- and upper-triangular two-diagonal block matrices of a special form, respectively. If \(J\) is associated with the linear functional \(S(\lambda)\), then it turns out that the shifted parameterless Darboux transformation \[ J^{(p)}=UV+\alpha I \] is associated with the linear functional \[ S^{(p)}(\lambda)=(\lambda-\alpha)S(\lambda). \]
