Let \((f_c)_{c \in {\mathbb{C}}}\) be a family of quadratic polynomials given by \[ f_c(z)=z^2+c. \] The filled-in Julia set \(K(f_c)\) is the set of all points that do not escape to infinity under iteration of \(f_c\), that is, \[ K(f_c)=\Big\{z \in {\mathbb{C}}~~:~~f_c^{(n)}(z) \not\longrightarrow \infty \Big\}, \] where \(f_c^{(n)}=\underbrace{f_c \circ \cdots \circ f_c}_{n \mathrm{ times}}\). The Julia set \(J(f_c)\) is defined to be the boundary of \(K(f_c)\). We denote by \(d(c)\) the Hausdorff dimension of the Julia set \(J(f_c)\). It follows from \textit{D. Ruelle}'s theorem [Ergodic Theory Dyn. Syst. 2, 99--107 (1982; Zbl 0506.58024)] that the function \(d : c\longmapsto d(c)\) is real-analytic on the interval \((-5/4,-3/4)\). \vskip 0.2cm In this paper, the author investigates the left-hand derivative of \(d\) at \(-3/4\). He proves, under the assumption \(d(-3/4)<4/3\), that there exists \({K^{-}_{-3/4}}>0\) such that \[ \lim_{c \longrightarrow {(-\frac34)}^{-}}d'(c)\Big(-\frac34-c\Big)^{-\frac32 d(-\frac34)+2}=-{K^{-}_{-3/4}}. \] He further notices that the assumption \(d(-3/4)<4/3\) is supported by numerical experiments.
