The so called Muckenhoupt-Wheeden conjecture (there exists a constant \(c\) such that for any function \(f\) and any weight \(w\) (i.e. a nonnegative locally integrable function), it holds that \[ \|Hf\|_{L^{1,\infty}(w)}\leq c\int_{\mathbb R}|f|Mw\,dx, \] where \(H\) is the Hilbert transform) has been disproved by \textit{M. C. Reguera} and \textit{C. Thiele} [Math. Res. Lett. 19, No. 1, 1--7 (2012; Zbl 1271.42025)]. On the other hand, \textit{C. Pérez} [J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 49, No. 2, 296--308 (1994; Zbl 0797.42010)] showed that for a Calderón-Zygmund operator \(T\), it holds that \[ \|Tf\|_{L^{1,\infty}(w)}\leq c_{\varepsilon}\int_{\mathbb R^n} |f|M_{L(\log L)^\varepsilon} (w)dx, \] where \(M_{L(\log L)^\varepsilon} (w)\) is the maximal function related to the Young function \(t(1+\log^+ t)^\varepsilon\). In this paper, the authors prove the following estimate for the maximal operator \(T^*\) associated to the singular integral operator \(T\): for any \(0<\varepsilon\leq1\), \[ \|T^{\ast}f\|_{L^{1,\infty}(w)}\leq \frac{c_T}{\varepsilon}\int_{\mathbb R^n} |f|M_{L(\log L)^\varepsilon} (w)dx. \] To show this, they prove the sharp \(L^p\) estimate \[ \|T^*f\|_{L^p(w)}\leq c_T p'p^2(\frac1\delta)^{1/p'} \|f\|_{L^p(ML(\log L)^{p-1+\delta}(w))}, \] \(1<p<\infty, 0<\delta\leq 1\). They also discuss several related topics.
