Let \(H\) be a separable complex Hilbert space and let \(\mathcal{B}(H)\) be the algebra of all bounded linear operators on \(H\). The authors study symmetries \(J\) such that a given projection \(E\) in \(\mathcal{B}(H)\) is a \(J\)-projection with respect to a particular space decomposition. This is related to Halmos two projections theory. They also give explicit representations of the maximum and the minimum of symmetries \(J\) such that the projection \(E\) is \(J\)-positive or \(J\)-negative.
