The authors consider two examples of integro-differential equations with first and second order time derivatives, which involve integrals of the function multiplied by the weakly singular power-law kernel and the outer excitations represented by an explicit function of time. Two Galerkin-type numerical schemes based on the Lagrange interpolating polynomials are applied and used for solving these equations by using a Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization algorithm. The description of the procedure is supplied with the step-by-step outline of the algorithms and several artificial examples. Such examples have exact analytical solutions and are used to estimate errors of the numerical solutions.
