Let \(S\) be a complex nonsingular minimal projective surface of general type with \(K_S^2=2\chi(\mathcal{O}_S)-1\) and \(\chi(\mathcal{O}_S)\geq7\). In this paper, the author shows that, if the canonical map \(\phi_S\) of \(S\) is birational then \(\chi(\mathcal{O}_S)\leq9\); if \(\phi_S\) is not birational, then it is generically finite of degree two, and the involution \(\sigma\) corresponding to \(\phi_S\) has \(k=1\), \(3\), or \(5\) isolated fixed points. By analysing the quotient map \(S\to S/\sigma\), he proves that, if \(k=1\) then \(\chi(\mathcal{O}_S)\leq13\) and \(S\) can be realized as the minimal resolution of a double cover of a Hirzebruch surface; if \(k=3\) then \(\chi(\mathcal{O}_S)\leq8\) and \(S\) is birational to a double cover of a weak del Pezzo surface or a Hirzebruch surface; if \(k=5\) then \(S\) has a fibration of genus \(2\).
