The authors study a singular integral equation arising in the linear theory of water waves: \[ \int_ Lf(t)\left[K\ln\left|{x-t\over x+t}\right|+{1\over x+t}-{1\over x-t}\right]dt=g(x), \] where \(g(x)\) is a prescribed function in the double interval \(L=(0,a)\cup(b,\infty)\). The authors give a closed form solution \(f(x)\), basing on a proceeding of \textit{F. Tricomi} [Z. Angew. Math. Mech. 11, 402-406 (1951; Zbl 0043.319)].
