Let \(g,h\in\text{SL}(2,\mathbb{C})\) generate a nonelementary discrete group. Then \(|\text{tr}^2(g)-4|+|\text{tr}[g,h]-2|\geq 1\). There are many extensions and improvements of this inequality, especially by F. W. Gehring and G. Martin in a series of papers. Here we find a new type of the above Jørgensen's inequality which is obtained using the embedding of \(\text{SL}(2,\mathbb{C})\) into \(\widehat U(1,1,\mathbb{H})\) over the quaternions.
