The authors of this interesting paper consider the fractional zero curvature equation of the form \[ {\mathbf D}_t^{\alpha}U-{\mathbf D}_x^{\alpha}V + [U,V] = 0, \] where \({\mathbf D}_t^{\alpha}(f(t))\) is the fractional derivative introduced by \textit{H. D. Davis} [Monogr. of the Qaterman Inst. of Indiana Univ. 72, Bloomington, Indiana: Principia Press. XIV (1936; Zbl 0015.35203)]. Then the fractional Hamiltonian system takes the form \[ dq_i/dt=-{\mathbf D}_{p_i}^{\alpha}H(q,p), \;\;\;\;dp_i/dt = {\mathbf D}_{q_i}^{\alpha}H(q,p), \] where \(H(q,p)\) is the Hamiltonian function depending on canonical coordinates \(q,p\) in the phase space \(\mathbb{R}^{2n}\). Differential forms of fractional orders are introduced as well. An interesting example of the fractional AKNS soliton equation hierarchy is given in order to illustrate the theory.
