The authors compute the average \(p\)-th Betti number \(b_{p}(n,\mu)\) of an ensemble of \(n\) point linkages in the plane, for certain measures \(\mu\) on the sets of lengths. There are 2 measures in question here. One is Lebesgue measure on the simplex of lengths summing to \(1\) and the other is Lebesgue measure on the cube of lengths between \(0\) and \(1\). The average in both cases satisfies \(| b_{p}(n,\mu) - \binom {n-1}p| < Ca^n\) for constants \(C > 0\), \(0 < a < 1\).
