The question of whether or not the group \(F\) introduced by R. Thompson is amenable is an open question. The author has shown in his Ph.D. thesis that the existence of a ruinous set in a generating subsemigroup \(N\) of \(F\) implies the nonamenability of \(F\). In this paper, he shows that no subset of \(N\) of at most three elements is ruinous.
