Cappell's \(UNil\) groups arise as obstructions to splitting a homotopy equivalence \(h:M \rightarrow X\) of manifolds along a \(\pi_{1}\)-injective submanifold \(X_{0}\) of \(X\). For finite groups \(F\) with a Sylow \(2\)-subgroup that is normal and abelian this paper shows how to reduce the computation of \(UNil\) for \(F\) to the computation of \(UNil\) for the Sylow \(2\)-subgroup. The techniques used include hyperelementary induction, Tate cohomology and Cartesian squares.
