By the use of function theoretic methods a priori estimates (in the form of uniform bounds for derivatives) are obtained for solutions of the two-dimensional Helmholtz equation defined in an exterior domain. These estimates are then used to obtain uniform asymptotic expansions and a new uniqueness theorem for such solutions.
