    The Gabriel-Popescu theorem [\textit{N. Popescu} and \textit{P. Gabriel}, C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris 258, 4188--4190 (1964; Zbl 0126.03304)] says that each Grothendieck abelian category can be realized as a localization of a module category. In this paper under review, based on the Ph.D thesis of the author under the supervision of \textit{B. Keller}, the author proves an analogous result for well generated algebraic triangulated categories. His main result says that any well generated algebraic triangulated category is a localization of the derived category of a small differential graded category. Note that an analogous result was proved for topological triangulated categories by \textit{A. Heider} [``Two results from Morita theory of stable model categories'', \url{arXiv:0707.0707}]. More precisely, the Gabriel-Popescu theorem says that for a Grothendieck category \(\mathcal{T}\), an object \(G\in \mathcal{T}\) is a generator of \(\mathcal{T}\) iff the functor \(\mathrm{Hom}(G, -): \mathcal{T}\to Mod(A)\), where \(A=End(G)\), is a localization. In the realm of triangulated categories, the notion of algebraic triangulated categories, i.e., stable categories of a Frobenius categories, was introduced by \textit{B. Keller} [Ann. Sci. Éc. Norm. Supér. (4) 27, No.~1, 63--102 (1994; Zbl 0799.18007)] and well generated triangulated categories were defined by \textit{A. Neeman} [Triangulated categories. Ann. Math. Stud. 148 (2001; Zbl 0974.18008)] (see also \textit{H. Krause} [Doc. Math., J. DMV 6, 118--123 (2001; Zbl 0987.18012)]) as a generalization of compactly generated triangulated categories. For example, the derived category of a small DG category is compactly generated, but its localization at the localizing subcategory generated by a set of objects is only well generated. It seems thus that well generated algebraic triangulated categories are suitable analogue of Grothendieck categories. This article under review answers in the algebraic case a question of \textit{V. Drinfeld}, i.e., whether all well generated triangulated categories arise as localizations of derived categories of small DG categories. That is to say, the author proves that a well generated algebraic triangulated categories is the localization of the derived category of a small DG category with respect to the localizing subcategory generated by a set of objects. As an intermediate step, he introduces the notion of \(\alpha\)-continuous derived categories in the sixth section which forms the technical core of the paper.
