Many results on Möbius transformations and discrete groups are shown in \textit{A. F. Beardon}'s book `The geometry of discrete groups' (1983; Zbl 0528.30001). Our purpose in this paper is to find analogous results for elements of U(1,n;\({\mathbb{C}})\) and discrete subgroups of U(1,n;\({\mathbb{C}})\). In Section 1 we prove that an element of U(1,n;\({\mathbb{C}})\) can be decomposed into two special elements. Using this fact, we obtain a distortion theorem for elements of U(1,n;\({\mathbb{C}})\). Elements of U(1,n;\({\mathbb{C}})\) are classified into three types. We discuss the properties of elements of each type. In Section 2 we study the properties of elements of discrete subgroups of U(1,n;\({\mathbb{C}})\). In Theorem 2.16 we stated that the fixed points of loxodromic elements of a discrete subgroup G of U(1,n;\({\mathbb{C}})\) are dense in L(G)\(\times L(G)\), where L(G) is the limit set of G.
