\textit{P. Griffiths} and \textit{J. Harris} [Math. Ann. 271, 31-51 (1985; Zbl 0552.14011)], posed, amont other ones, the following conjecture generalizing the Noether-Lefschetz theorem: let C be a curve contained in a general three-fold X of degree \( d\geq 6\) in \({\mathbb{P}}^ 4({\mathbb{C}})\). Then \({\mathbb{C}}\) is a complete intersection of X with a surface. According to the author, the conjecture is not true in general [he cites a preprint by \textit{C. Voisin} (see also the preceding review)]. He proves in the paper that the conjecture is true under the following condition: \(\ell \leq 2d-1\) where \(\ell\) is the degree of the curve C.
