One of the main results for quadratic forms over function fields of characteristic not 2 is the norm theorem due to \textit{M. Knebusch} [Acta Arith. 24, 279--299 (1973; Zbl 0287.15010)]. It says that for \(p\in F[x_1,\dots,x_n]\) irreducible and normed, an anisotropic quadratic form \(\varphi\) becomes hyperbolic over \(F(p)\) the quotient field of \(F[x_1,\dots,x_n]/(p)\) if and only if \(\varphi\) is isometric to \(p\varphi\) over \(F(x_1,\dots,x_n).\) For characteristic 2 the approach to the norm theorem requires treating separately various types of quadratic forms. \textit{R. Baeza} [Commun. Algebra 18, 1337--1348 (1990; Zbl 0711.11019)] proved the norm theorm for nonsingular quadratic form. In his next paper (already reviewed) the author together with \textit{P. Mammone} [Indag. Math., New Ser. 17, No. 4, 599--610 (2006; Zbl 1130.11016)] proved this for semisingular quadratic forms. The main result of the paper under review says that if \(\phi\) is an anisotropic totally singular quadraic form of dimension \(\geq 2\) and \(p\in F[x_1,\dots,x_n]\) is a normed irreducible polynomial, then \(\phi\) is quasi-hyperbolic over \(F(p)\) if and only if \(p\) is a norm of \(\phi\) over \(F(x_1,\dots,x_n).\)
