The paper deals with a \(M/M/\infty\) queuing system with arrival and service rates depending on the state of an auxiliary semi-Markov process. These models, arising in biology, reliability theory etc. are of great interest nowadays. The model developed here consists both of the service system (an infinite number of homogeneous servers) and the external environment (a semi-Markov process with finite state space). The goal of the paper is to estimate the mean number of customers when the system is in steady-state and, in particular, the distribution of the number of customers when the external environment has two states only. No concrete application in real life for such a system is provided.
