The aim of this paper is to generate a new subdivision scheme for curve interpolation. It is a nonlinear scheme that, with proper choices of the subdivision parameters, gives a \(G^{1}\) smooth limit curve. The main idea of this scheme is to displace every vertex as a linear combination of normal vectors and old vertexes. Shape preserving subdivision curves are generated by adaptively determining the tension parameter for every edge. For practical computation, displacement vectors for convex edges are adaptively scaled and the displacement vectors for inflection edges or straight edges are explicitly deduced.
