In this paper history and new mathematical and physical developments related to Bianchi models are briefly summarized. Observational limits on these cosmological models are also discussed. This paper is based on the talk presented by the author at a meeting held at Queen Mary, University of London in July 2004 to celebrate Malcolm MacCallum's 60th birthday and his contributions to mathematics and general relativity.
