Let \(C\) be a Mumford curve over a local field \(K\) such that \(C(K)\neq \emptyset\). Then \(C\) admits a rigid analytic uniformization similar to the Schottky uniformization of Riemann surfaces. Let \(\rho:K^\times\to Y\) be a homomorphism to some abelian group \(Y\). If \(\rho\) fulfills a certain condition, we define a height pairing on \(C\) with values in \(Y\) for which we prove a formula using explicitly given automorphic functions on the rigid analytic uniformization of \(C\). -- Then we show that our height pairing coincides with Néron's local height pairing on \(C\), if \(\rho\) is equal to \(\log|\;|_K:K^\times\to \mathbb{R}\), and with Schneider's local \(p\)-adic height pairing on \(C\), if \(\rho\) is a non-trivial and continuous homomorphism with target \(\mathbb{Q}_p\), and if Schneider's height is defined on \(C\). Hence, we get formulas for both these pairings in terms of automorphic functions on the uniformizing space. Finally, we show that our formula of Néron's pairing is in fact the non-archimedean transcription of an expression of Néron's local height pairing on Riemann surfaces proved by Manin who also gave an interpretation of his formula in terms of the geometry of a hyperbolic filling of the Riemann surface. Our expression on the Mumford curve \(C\) has a parallel geometric interpretation on a certain graph associated with \(C\).
