The author characterizes surjective isometries on the unit spheres of the \(F\)-spaces (\(\ell^{\beta_n}\)), where \(0< \beta_n <1\) for all positive integer \(n\) and the \(F\)-norm is the obvious one (these spaces were introduced by \textit{S. Pelczynski} [Bull. Acad. Pol. Sci., Cl. III 5, 471--473 (1957; Zbl 0079.12602)]). As a consequence, the author proves that each onto isometry on the unit sphere of a (\(\ell^{\beta_n}\)) space can be extended to a linear surjective isometry on the whole space, and a characterization of such linear surjective isometries is obtained. The obtained results extend the classical description of the linear surjective isometries on \(l_p\) and \(c_0\) to the \(F\)-spaces under consideration.
