In [Nonlinear Anal., Theory Methods Appl., Ser. A, Theory Methods 68, No. 8, 2303--2308 (2008; Zbl 1151.46006)], \textit{P.-K. Lin} gave conditions that imply that a renorming \(X\) of \(\ell^1\) has the fixed point property for nonexpansive mappings: i.e., that every nonexpansive self-mapping of a closed, bounded, convex subset of \(X\) has a fixed point. In the article under review, the authors generalize Lin's result to obtain conditions that imply that some Banach spaces with a Schauder basis have the fixed point property for nonexpansive mappings. The authors use their result to give new examples of nonreflexive Banach spaces with the fixed point property. Among their examples is a renorming of \(\ell^1\) with the fixed point property whose predual fails to have the fixed point property.
