For an odd prime \(p\), let \(A\) be the alternating group on \(p^n\) letters, \(S\) be a Sylow \(p\)-subgroup of \(A\) and \(E\) be an elementary abelian \(p\)-group of rank \(n\). The regular permutation representation \(E \subset S \subset A\) of \(E\) induces the homomorphisms \(\text{Res}(E,S) : H^*(BS) \to H^*(BE)\) and \(\text{Res} (E,A) : H^*(BA) \to H^*(BE)\). This paper studies the module structures of \(\text{ImRes} (E,S)\) and \(\text{ImRes} (E,A)\) over the \(\text{mod } p\) Steenrod algebra, particularly giving a duality relation concerning Steenrod operations. Using modular invariant theory of linear groups these two objects are expressed with exterior and polynomial algebras generated by the Dickson and Mui invariants [\textit{Huỳnh Mùi}, Math. Z. 193, 151-163 (1986; Zbl 0597.55019)]. An application of the duality theorem given here is the determination of the action of the Steenrod operations on the Dickson and Mui invariants.
