Let \(A\) be a measurable subset of \(\mathbb{R}^n\) and \(A'\) its complement. \(x\in\mathbb{R}^n\) is an (ordinary) density point of \(A\) if \(\lim_{r\rightarrow 0}\frac{\lambda_n(A'\cap Q(x,r))}{\lambda_n(Q(x,r))}=0\). Following an idea of \textit{S. J. Taylor} [Fundam. Math. 46, 305--315 (1959; Zbl 0086.04601)] the authors consider a modification of this definition using a nondecreasing continuous function \(\psi:(0,\infty)\rightarrow (0,\infty)\) with \(\lim_{x\rightarrow 0}\psi(x)=0.\) \(x\) is a \((\psi,n)\)-density point of \(A\) with respect to cubes if \(\lim_{r\rightarrow 0}\frac{\lambda_n(A'\cap Q(x,r))}{\lambda_n(Q(x,r))\psi(\lambda_n(Q(x,r)))}=0\) where \(Q(x,r)\) is the \(n\)-dimensional cube with center \(x\), with the edges parallel to the coordinate axes and edge length \(r\). Using this type of density points the authors study the corresponding \((\psi,n)\)-density topology \(\mathcal{T}_{(\psi,n)}\), in particular, the relationship between \(\mathcal{T}_{(\psi_1,n)}\) and \(\mathcal{T}_{(\psi_2,n)}\) for different functions \(\psi_1\), \(\psi_2\). Then \((\psi,n)\)-density points with respect to cubes are compared with \((\psi,n)\)-density points with respect to balls using, in the definition, balls \(B(x,r)\) with center \(x\) and radius \(r\) instead of cubes \(Q(x,r)\). Moreover, the authors mention some applications in the theory of sets of finite perimeter and in Sobolev spaces.
