The author presents a Galerkin method for the generalized nerve conduction equation on polygonal planar domains. The basis consists of piecewise linear functions on triangles. The differential equation is first converted to a parabolic integro-differential equation, and the temporal discretization is by the backward Euler method. The author proves an \(L_2\) error estimate.
