This article answers a question of the following form: What can be proved for groups all of whose finite quotients belong to a specific class? It is shown that finitely generated hyperabelian groups all of whose finite quotients are PST-groups are (a) finite soluble PST-groups or (b) nilpotent or (c) groups of infinite dihedral type. Here, a group \(G\) is called of infinite dihedral type if its hypercenter \(H\) is a finite \(2\)-group and \(G/H\) is the extension of a finitely generated abelian group without involutions by an inverting element of order \(2\).
